NEWS RELEASE

3RD NOVEMBER 2009

  • Supermoto.co.nz is a new forum based website with the intention of providing the Supermoto racers and street riders alike a place to discuss all topics that relate to Motards.
  • The Site is alive NOW
  • Operated By Bret Glazer of Quasimoto Motorcycle Accessories and Motard Racer
  • Sites purpose is to promote Motard Racing and Motard Road riding in N.Z

Bret Glazer owner of Quasimoto Motorcycle Accessories and Supermoto racer wanted to help promote the fast growing sport of Supermoto so he has Launched www.supermoto.co.nz , he feels that the sport needs a voice and a place where Motard racers in particular can discuss issues that affect the sport, “Motard racing is fairly unique it needs its own entity  where we can promote information and events to grow the sport further, I  also wanted to start a forum based website where experienced Motarders can share good information with newbie’s as well as establish a good NZ based resource for information” .

The Motard racing scene is a fast growing class with many riders choosing Motards over other classes and the support is great, many clubs such as the VMCC and the PMCC are supporting the class very well, and there is no question that  Motards are the crowd favorites at Wanganui and Paeroa  “supermoto.co.nz will offer a great place for clubs to advertise events in the calendar section and by doing so enable a greater turn out by the racers”.

KTM New Zealand is one of the Principal Sponsors of Supermoto.co.nz and believes strongly that the class will continue to grow to the point where a New Zealand Nationals event would be on the cards very soon, they see Supermoto.co.nz as a great start for the class to drive forward even greater events in the future.

There is also a growing popularity these days in riding Motards on the road, there are numerous new models available now with many manufactures offering new models in their lineups “it would be great to have a NZ resource available to help with bike setups, Trackday advise, there is so much info our there so Im hoping riders will share it online”

Bret Glazer notes that he encourages all suppliers and bike related industry groups to encourage the Supermoto.co.nz site in anyway they can for the benefit of the sport and the industry as a whole, Bret encourages suppliers to contact him with any products as services of interest to the riders, he sees it as a great tool for business to promote themselves to a targeted group

“It’s a growing class, just look at what’s happening in Europe the Supermoto class is huge and features prominently as a spectator friendly sport and one that attracts massive exposure for the sponsors………..I want that in New Zealand but business has to get in behind it”

NEW Gear Underway

October 3rd, 2008

Hi All, we would like to tell you about a few new things about Quasimoto as well as some new products about to arrive into stock.

First up, QUASiMOTO will be s l o w e l y rolling out its new Branding, so stay tuned for this, all I want to say at this point is WOW its very cool !!

the first is a new Sports Jacket (yet to be named) it has all of the quality features you would expect from a QUASiMOTO jacket, such as Premium grade 1.4mm Leather, Triple Stitched, thermal thinsulate lining etc, the style is what is the main feature, it is going to ROCK.

SPS KNOX Race Gloves, This is a new technology glove which features SPS (Scaphoid Protection System) basically if you crash your hand hits the deck first and that sudded stress will often break your Scaphoid, this is BAD, the new Quasimoto SPS glove will prevent this from happening as it has two KNOX plates on the lower Palm, on contact the hand will slip and slide, not come to a sudden halt, think of it like a Knee Slider on your hands only not as big of course.

So keep a look out for the new gear arriving soon

Thats all from us

Thanks for looking

Cheers

BLACK THUNDER RETURNS TO BONNEVILLE 2008

June 3rd, 2008

Crashing his Kawasaki ZX14 motorcycle at 300kph in to two timing markers on the Bonneville Salt Flats in August 2007, has not deterred Hamilton’s Alan Thoresen, from returning to Speed Week 2008 in August this year to again chase a Land Speed Record in excess of 200mph.

Since Bonneville 2007, Alan has run the Drag Racing season in New Zealand on the ZX-14 breaking four national records over the season, and finished up in the runner up position in the NZ Drag Association National points series for Modified Bike.

The 52 year old is returning with more determination and enthusiasm to run at the 60th anniversary of Speed week on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah USA, which starts August 17th and runs for the week

The team for 2008 will be the same as 2007 with Hamilton Motorcycle Mechanic Neil Powell as Crew Chief, along with Andy Goodridge from TeAwamutu as crew assistant and Alan’s wife Violet Thoresen who will be driving the Teams recovery vehicle and home away from home.

Alan’s Kawasaki ZX-14 “Black Thunder” will have additional modifications based on experience gained at running on the Bonneville Salt Flats in August 2007, where the primary issue was lack of traction, and the build up of salt on the tyres with the moist salt conditions. – Alan will be sticking with the Continental Street Attack tyres, as they handled well on the slippery surface last year, however he will also run the new Continental Race Attack tyres on a second set of rims, as he and his crew chief believe that if the salt is moist, the ZX-14 tyres may actually gain better traction with less tread, as it should not pick up as much salt. – Alan will be carrying out some testing on the Kawasaki ZX-14 with the modifications before the bike is crated up in late July to head off to the USA.

Last year Alan and his Kawasaki ZX-14 gained considerable media coverage with their record attempt at Bonneville as the lone kiwi entrant, travelling from NZ to race with some of the fastest machines in the world.

This year has attracted what is believed to be four cars from NZ along with a potential 3 other motorcycles, and whilst all are individual teams, Alan has said he hopes that all the “kiwi teams” will front the start line on the salt at Bonneville together, so as to “Paint the Salt Black” with kiwis, cars and bikes and flags!!

Watch out for more updates on Alan, his Kawasaki ZX-14 and the Team from Black Thunder Racing NZ.

QUASiMOTO are proud supporters of BLACK THUNDER RACING and we wish Alan, Violet and the Black Thunder Team the very best for their return to the Bonneville Salt Flats this year.

CHEESECUTTER PETITION

November 2nd, 2007

On Saturday 20th October at 3AM, 21 year-old Daniel Evans was killed when he hit the wire-rope median barrier on State Highway 1 near Papakura. The impact with the barrier caused horrific injuries with his body literally ending up sliced in half. The wire-rope median barrier, colloquially referred to as ‘cheesecutters’, is of a type banned in several European countries and subject to stringent usage conditions in several others precisely as a result of the danger they pose to motorcyclists. When hit by a body, the steel legs of the barrier trap limbs and fling the body around causing terrible injury. The high tension steel cables act as a guillotine, severing and lacerating anything that comes into contact with them.

Transit NZ, with the backing of the government and Land Transport New Zealand, continue to state that these barriers are a safe and cost-effective method of preventing head-on collisions on New Zealand’s roads.

CheeseCutter – the Campaign for Safer Barriers – urges the government and Land Transport New Zealand to place an immediate moratorium on the use of such barriers until a comprehensive review is undertaken into the effectiveness and safety of these barriers to all road users, particularly motorcyclists. We believe that the low cost and ease of building, rather than safety considerations, are the main reasons why wire rope median barriers are becoming so widespread and the preferred form of barrier on a range of roads and highways.

And Please tell all your biker freinds to sign as well, and lets get rid of these dangerous lane dividers for good.Â
